Captaintreacherous to make 2013 debut Sunday at Pocono

from Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs

Wilkes-Barre, PA — Defending Pacer of the Year Captaintreacherous makes his 3-year-old debut Sunday night (May 19) at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs in the 10th race, one of four divisions of a $250,344 Pennsylvania Sire Stake.

The son of Somebeachsomewhere, trained by Tony Alagna, starts the season racing under the new banner of Captaintreacherous Racing. Captaintreacherous comes into the event off of three solid qualifying victories, including a 1:51-:53.4-:26.4 engine jaunt at Meadowlands Racetrack last Saturday.

Like his star Thoroughbred counterpart Orb, racing in the Preakness the day before, Captaintreacherous will be starting from the rail Sunday — only in Captaintreacherous‘ case it’s the outside rail in a field of seven, which shows four horses beating 1:53 already this year. Tim Tetrick will be in his familiar sulky position behind Captaintreacherous.

Featured in other Sire Stakes divisions (which are racing, incidentally, one day after eight divisions of Stallion Series competition for this age/sex/gait) are proven stakes winners Our Dragon King, Apprentice Hanover and Twilight Bonfire, plus Eddie Sweat, who takes the big step up after winning the PA Stallion Series championship last year, and Beach Memories, who tripped the timer in 1:50.2f in only his second start of 2013.

Also a big highlight will be the $25,000 Mares Preferred Pace in race nine. Blue Chip Matchmaker champion Feeling You will seek to gain revenge on the freewheeling Camille, who nosed her out here last week but now loses post advantage, and they both had better watch for Economy Terror, the double world record setter at Pocono in taking her PA Sires championships at two and three and who gets the rail for her second start of the year.

First post for the big Pocono Sunday night card is 6:30 p.m.
