Case dominates closing day at Bangor Raceway

Bangor, ME — Walter Case Jr. scored four wins at Bangor Raceway on Wednesday (Aug. 3) during the final program of the summer meet.

Bet On Success was one of four winners for Walter Case Jr. Shelley Gilpatrick photo.

Four times Case insisted on the front-end seat, aggressively guiding his charges swiftly off the gate while securing three pike route wins with Rockin Lisa (Woodstock, 1:59.4) and Bet On Success (Bettor’s Delight, 1:58.2) — both from the Clayton Merrill Jr. roster — and Nets Of Passion (Net Ten Eom, 1:57.3).

Case’s lone runner-up placing while gunning on the front end came as Biggie (Somebeachsomewhere) was pestered by Eyes Don’t Lie (Winter Asher-Stalbaum) who was aggressively forced to take air through torrid fractions (:26.4, :56, 1:26.1). Eyes Don’t Lie faded to fourth as Captain’s Reign (Michael Stevenson) rallied for the 1:56.4 victory, while Case held for the runner-up placing.

Equally adept at off-the-pace scenarios, Case’s other win came with a powerful first-over salvo with Ageless Grace (Well Said). The duo ground out a well-earned 1:59.2 score to post the 1-3/4 length margin at the wire.

In other Bangor news, driver Nick Graffam continued to post exquisite numbers in Queen City competition, scoring two wins on Wednesday.

Wednesday marked the closing day of the Bangor summer meeting as state of Maine harness racing will now transition to the Topsham Fair. Topsham will conduct its week-long meet from Aug. 7-13 with first post slated for 1 p.m. on Sunday (Aug. 7).

Live harness racing will resume at Bangor Raceway on Sept. 7 while simulcast wagering remains available through the hiatus on Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 7 p.m.
