Catching up with Larry Lederman

from the USTA Communications Department

Columbus, OH — Several years ago, the harness racing world was shaken when it was revealed that storied track announcer Larry Lederman had been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Recently, Lederman underwent a ProCure Proton Therapy series of treatments following surgery, which has caused the tumor to disappear.

During Hambletonian week, USTA Social Media and Public Relations Coordinator Michael Carter, a track announcer himself, had a chance to sit down with Lederman at his home in New Jersey to discuss his recovery.

In the first of a two-part video, Lederman recalls some of his favorite memories during his race calling career as well as some of his experiences during treatment.

Part two, which will be released next week, will feature Lederman’s advice for both younger generations entering the sport of harness racing and for those that are battling cancer.

The video was produced by USTA Multimedia Coordinator Rich Johnston.
