by “Catskill” Steve Terjanian

Catskill Steve offers his picks for the $10,000 Pick-5 at Yonkers Raceway on Aug. 6, part of the U.S. Trotting Association Strategic Wagering Program.

Yonkers Raceway Pick-5, Races 5-9, Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013

$.50 play: 25/12/134/234/46 = $36

Analysis:

Race 5: (5) Credit Limit broke leaving from eight hole in last, following an even effort against better two back. Gets Brennan back who steered him to three straight wins including one at this level from similar spot on June 25. (2) Photo Rules takes key drop and appears a major player from this spot.

Race 6: (1) Pembroke Alec Bush has been a popular item in the claiming box recently, having been claimed in four of his last five. Gets the rail at slightly lesser level and has speed to take them down the pike with the likelihood of being claimed again. (2) Penn Turbo Ted had even pace finishing through fast final half when dropped to this level in improved try. Has some back class and may be chasing top one from the pocket here.

Race 7: (3) Beach Terror has been a pick in this column in his last two races and except for a :55.1 last half rally for show two back hasn’t been much. Gets first decent post since arriving at Yonkers and we’ll see how he does sitting closer to the pace or on the engine. (1) Militia Man has been chasing NY breds in stakes events. Gets the rail but may actually be tougher over big tracks and will likely be hammered at the windows. (4) Troon had eight hole in local return after a strong closing place finish in Tompkins-Geers stake at Tioga two back. Raced well here back in May and June and is not out of this by any means.

Race 8: I’ll go with the two powerful speed horses in here (3) Nabber Again and (4) Clem who both come off wire-to-wins at this level. I will also include (2) Lumiere who finishes fast and should be stalking top two from this spot.

Race 9: (6) Ronny Bugatti chased a :56.1 final half from the pocket and finished second in 1:53.4 Sire Stakes event at Buffalo two back, then had a wide trip at Tioga, also in Sire Stakes last time, finishing evenly in mile that stopped the clock in a sparkling 1:50. (4) Cool Like That is a speedy youngster that will take them as far as he can and only a scant nose and a head have kept him from winning six in a row.

Good luck.
