Champion sire Super Arnie, 26, dies in Sweden

Super Arnie, Sweden’s leading sire in 2006-09, has been put down at the age of 26.

Super Arnie was sired by Super Bowl and out of Arnies Likeness, she by Arnie Almahurst.

Super Arnie was bred by Castleton Farm and sold for $100,000 as a yearling. He was campaigned by Continental Farms and won 11 races from 26 starts, took a mark of 1:54.1 and earned $393,464.

As he was owned by the Swedish KGB Stables, he went to stud in Sweden and was an immediate success.

Over the years he sired 1,831 foals in Sweden and nine of them had earnings of more than five million Swedish Kroner or approximately $750,000.

Among his offspring are Gigant Neo, a winner of the Prix d’Amerique.
