Regarded as one of the top 3-year-old pacers in the county, the son of McCardle, hit the board in 17 of 22 starts, winning ten races and earning $879,400 for owner and breeder Don Tiger.  Charlie May’s lifetime earnings now top $1.2 million.

Charlie May’s wins included three legs of the Ohio Sire Stakes, the Carl Milstein Memorial at MGM Northfield Park, the Ohio State Fair Stakes, the Ohio Breeders Championship, and the Matron Stakes at Dover Downs.  He also crossed the finish line first in the Meadowlands Pace but was placed last for interference, which is under appeal.

“It was a great year,” said Tiger who had hopes that Charlie May could duplicate his two-year-old season.  “Like a good baseball or football team you get your core guys back and you think you are going to be OK.  We knew the cards we had, and we thought he would accomplish what we did.”

Charlie May will be honored at the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association Annual Awards Banquet January 15, 2022, at the Hilton Columbus-Polaris in Columbus, Ohio.

The 2021 Ohio Horse of the Year will be announced at the annual awards banquet.
