Charlie May victorious in Ohio State Fair

Columbus, OH — Charlie May once again proved victorious, this time in Ohio State Fair action at Eldorado Scioto Downs. Two divisions of 3-year-old colt pacers went for $60,000 each on Saturday (Aug 8).

Taking straight to the front, Charlie May (Brett Miller) won comfortably over Heart of Chewbacca (Dan Noble) in 1:51.4. Posting a :26.2 last quarter, the 1/9 favorite trained by Steve Carter for owner/breeder Don Tiger now has $578,477 earned lifetime.

The other division also went in 1:51.4 and was won by Odds On Shaggy. Driven by Miller, Virgil Morgan, Jr. trains the son of Racing Hill – Gro for Odds On Racing.

The $73,000 divisions of 2-year-old colt pacers were won by Gulf Shores (Ronnie Wrenn, Jr.) and Western Ready (Aaron Merriman) in 1:52 and 1:52.1, respectively.

Gulf Shores (Downbytheseaside – Western Drag) is trained by Brian Brown for owners Country Club Acres, Diamond Creek Racing and Wingfield Brothers. The $100,000 Lexington Select Yearling Sale purchase left from post six to lead gate to wire to win by one and a half lengths over Sling Shock (Dan Noble). Gulf Shores was bred by Joe Sbrocco, Joe Mclead and William Walters.

Western Ready (Western Vintage – My My Marie) won by two lengths over Tre Cruz (Miller) for trainer Scott Ferguson and owner Brendan Toops. The $3,700 Blooded Horse Sale purchase has now earned $57,464 posting his fourth win in six starts.

Dontforgetlittlman and Winning Ticket were winners in the $57,000 divisions of the 3-year-old colt trot.

Dan Noble drove Dontforgetlittlman to victory by three lengths in 1:56.2 for owner/trainer Deborah Swartz. Ilikedecupcakes (Hugh Beatty) was second with Lucky Pelican (Tyler Smith) finishing third. Dontforgetlittlman is by Dontyouforgetit out of the Cash Hall mare Gutsy Hall.

Winning Ticket (Merriman) stayed perfect on the season winning his eighth race in eight starts for trainer Chris Beaver by three-quarters of a length. Owned by Beaver, Steven Zeehandelar, Tim Homan and Jim Burnett, Winning Ticket now has $164,500 already earned for 2021.
