Charlotte DeVan, 92, dies

Columbus, OH — Charlotte DeVan, 92, died Jan. 1, 2013, at her home with her family by her side.

Born August 30, 1920, in San Antonio, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence B. and Charlotte Newton Sheppard. Mrs. DeVan was the wife of the late William Todd DeVan II, MD, who died Sept. 6, 2002.

She enjoyed racing and breeding Standardbreds and was a past member of the Board of Directors of Hanover Shoe Farms.

Mrs. DeVan graduated from Harcum Junior College, Philadelphia. Having a strong sense of patriotism, she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she held the title of former State Regent. She was a member of the Colonial Daughters of the 17th Century, the Order of the Crown of Charlemagne, and a longtime member of the Hanover Country Club. She was a founding member of the former St. Vincent’s Catholic Elementary School PTA.

She is survived by her sons, Lawrence (Ann), William Todd Jr. (Melody) and Russell (Karen); grandchildren, Jennifer, Nathan, Stuart, Elizabeth, Brian Connors, Jeffrey Connors and Brooke; and great-grandchildren, Grace Connors and Ellie Connors. She was preceded in death by her brother, Lawrence (Sonny) Sheppard, Jr.; and sisters, Alma S. Tolhurst and Patricia S. Winder.

Funeral arrangements are private at the convenience of the family.
