Columbus, OH — Retired racing official Chester L. Boyle, 86, of Harwich, Mass., died Nov. 20, 2013.

Mr. Boyle was graduated dually from Weymouth (Mass.) High School and the Norfolk Agricultural School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.

After the war, he returned to Weymouth, to marry the late Alma (Belcher) Boyle and opened Boyles Fish Market in Rockland. He went on to become a Weymouth police officer and then served several terms as Weymouth’s Park Commissioner.

Later, he officiated as a presiding judge for the U.S. Trotting Association, working in the stand at The Red Mile, Louisville Downs, Wolverine Raceway, Northville Downs, Cahokia Downs, Fairmount Park, Balmoral Park, Scioto Downs, Raceway Park, Foxboro and Rockingham Park.

Once retired, Chester and Alma resided in Detroit, Maine, and Ocala, Fla., before finally settling in Harwich. While Mr. Boyle’s main passion was his family, he also enjoyed golfing, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and traveling.

Mr. Boyle is survived by his daugther, Brenda (Gerard) Walsh; grandchildren, Julie and Shayla Walsh; sister, Audrey Butler; and neices Nancy Taber and Ann Flahery. He was preceded in death by the love of his life of 63 years, Alma (Belcher) Boyle; and his son, John F.X.
