Chief Mate (Mike Wilder) was third when Wilder sent him after the leader, Sandbetweenmytoes (Brady Brown). The 7-year-old Captaintreacherous-Heaven Forbid gelding gobbled up Sandbetweenmytoes in mid-stretch and held off the late charge of Gung Ho (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.), downing him by a half length in 1:51.2. Sandbetweenmytoes saved show.

Dirk Simpson trains Chief Mate, who now boasts a career bankroll of $451,866, for Greg Luther Racing LLC.

Dave Palone and Ronnie Wrenn, Jr. each piloted three winners on the 13-race card.

Live racing at The Meadows resumes Wednesday when the program features a $513.75 carryover in the Early Pentafecta (race 4). First post is 12:45 p.m.
