Cinderella Guy seeks Beckwith win

by Joe Hartmann, for Plainridge Racecourse

Plainville, MA — Bulletproof Enterprises’ Cinderella Guy, trained by the red-hot trainer Tracy Brainard, will be seeking to join elite company as the winner of the $75,000 Bert Beckwith Memorial Pace XIV, the feature event of the loaded Labor Day race card, Monday afternoon (Sept. 7) at Plainridge Racecourse.

New England’s premier pacing event, the Beckwith Memorial has been captured by such superior pacers as two-time Breeders Crown champion Village Jiffy and two-time Beckwith winners Riyadh, Space Shuttle and Maltese Artist.

A 5-year-old gelded son of Real Desire, out of the Artsplace mare Arterra, Cinderella Guy comes into the race off a career performance, besting Beckwith rival Foiled Again with a 1:49.1 victory on closing night at the Meadowlands.

Cinderella Guy has scored major victories at the Meadowlands, Tioga Downs and Mohawk Raceway.

One of the sport’s dynamic young trainers, Brainard has sent out 137 winners to date in 2009, with a healthy .366 training percentage.

The complete field for the $75,000 Bert Beckwith Memorial Pace XIV, in post position order, includes Foiled Again (Dave Palone), Rockinrollin Now (Drew Campbell), Real Nice (Jason Bartlett), Special Report (Larry Stalbaum), Psiluvuheartbreaker (Jim Meittinis), Cinderella Guy (Bruce Ranger) and Camshaft Hanover (David Pinckney, Jr.).

Psiluvuheartbreaker and Jim Meittinis won the 2008 Beckwith for trainer Bruce Saunders.

The Beckwith will be the featured event on the Labor Day card that will include the $26,000 Stan Bergstein Pace for 3-year-old pacers and the $7,500 Ron Pasquantonio Trot, part of the Battle of New England series raced at both Rockingham and Plainridge.

In addition, ten past stars of New England harness racing will compete in the Living Legends Challenge.

Post time for the holiday racing card is slated for 1 p.m. Prior to the card, Elmer Smith will be introduced as the latest addition to the New England Harness Racing Wall of Fame.
