Clarence Schalk Jr., 83, dies

Columbus, OH — Clarence J. Schalk Jr., 83, of Wilmington, Ohio, died Oct. 28, 2014, at home, surrounded by family.

Mr. Schalk was born Sept. 15, 1931, to Clarence J. Sr. and Carrie Osler Schalk.

He was an active member of the Clinton County Horseman’s Association, a farmer, trainer, breeder and Korean War veteran.

Mr. Schalk enjoyed racing on the Ohio Fair circuits with his small stable of horses, including Wilmington Sam, Stedy Dare, Easter Lace, Patty Lace, Woe Sam, Woes Jet Filly and Friskie Connection.

He is survived by his wife, Elise Robinson Schalk; sons, Leonard Cochran, Larry (Wanda) Cochran and Earnie Cochran; daughters, Barbara Cline, Brenda (Kevin) Darlington, Bonnie (Mike) Farr and Billie Jo (Keith) Cockerham; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday (Oct. 31) at the Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home and the interment will follow at the Sugar Grove Cemetery in Wilmington. Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday (Oct. 30) at Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 3229 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio.
