Classic Martine captures Miss Versatility leg

Campbellville, ON — A little more than two weeks after winning the Armbro Flight Stakes, Classic Martine was back in the Mohawk winner’s circle Monday night (June 30). Classic Martine and driver Tim Tetrick defeated eight rivals to win the $37,600 second leg of the Miss Versatility in 1:52.3.

A 4-year-old daughter of Classic Photo-Drinking Days, Classic Martine made the front heading into the first turn and allowed Rockin With Dewey to clear to the lead just after the quarter pole.

Rockin With Dewey carried the lead into the stretch, but Classic Martine was able to convert off a perfect pocket trip and trotted on by to win by 2-1/4 lengths with a last quarter of :27.1. Rockin With Dewey held on for second, followed by Handover Belle, D’Orsay and Maven.

Classic Martine now has victories in the first two legs of the Miss Versatility and picked up her fifth win in six starts this season for trainer Chris Oakes.

The Oakes trainee also boosted her career earnings to $725,006 with victory number 17 of her career for owners Hauser Brothers Racing, Susan Oakes, Conrad Zurich and Edwin Gold. Classic Martine returned $4.30 to win as the public’s choice.

The third leg of the Miss Versatility will take place July 11 at the Meadowlands.
