Clinton Raceway opens for 2017 season

While it wasn’t the most favorable weather for opening day on Sunday (May 21) race fans braved the rain and came out for Clinton Raceway’s 2017 season opener and supported Central Huron Secondary school and their track side fundraiser.

The crowd grew as the rain eased and the nine race card progressed.

“We really have some of the most loyal fans in the industry, they look forward to the season, and getting back to Clinton, a little rain definitely didn’t deter them either.” stated marketing manager Jessica Carnochan. “With the 50/50 winner taking over $500, a sold-out bake sale and great silent auction, our fans were able to help CHSS raise over $1,500 for their mental health awareness day in the fall.”

One lucky winner was also chosen to take home a $1,000 share in a race horse from The Stable.ca. Guests could fill out a ballot to win an ownership prize and after the eighth race, Ava MacDonald, daughter of The Stable.ca owner, Anthony MacDonald, announced to the crowd that Doug Hurst was the lucky winner.

An on track handle, just shy of $23,000 proved another successful season opener for the 15 week summer season stretching through Labor Day weekend.

Live racing continues next Sunday and all summer long with a post time of 1:30 p.m. Season details can be found at www.clintonraceway.com.
