Clydesdales visit Goshen: Children admitted free

by Ellen Harvey, Harness Racing Communications

Freehold, NJ — The sound of hoof beats — very heavy hoof beats — will be heard at Goshen Historic Track on Sunday (June 16), when the Budweiser Clydesdales will exhibit their imposing eight horse team.

The Clydesdales will appear on the track at about 3 p.m., the close of the racing program, which starts at 1 p.m. The track, located at 44 Park Place in Goshen, offers free admission to children 12 and under. Adults pay $5, which includes a program for the day’s races, preceding the Clydesdales’ appearance.

The track does not have a parking lot, but Main Street in Goshen, adjacent to the track, offers parking, as does the County Government Building just a block from the track.

The big bay horses weigh about 2,000 pounds each, making them twice the size of the Standardbreds that typically compete and train on the track. The Clydesdales are a centerpiece of the Anheuser-Busch company’s advertising efforts and are regularly among the most popular commercials on the Super Bowl telecast.

The Harness Racing Museum (www.harnessmuseum.com), adjacent to the track at 240 Main Street in Goshen, will be open and free to the public, as always, on June 16 and visitors are welcome before and after the Clydesdales’ appearance on the track.
