Coleman hoping for a super Saturday night

Campbellville, ON — Racing fans will be delighted Saturday night (August 21) at Mohawk Racetrack as the nation’s best rookie racers will be in town. Three divisions of the Nassagaweya Stakes for rookie colts will be contested along with three divisions of the Eternal Camnation Stakes for freshman fillies. Both stakes events contest for purses slightly above C$100,000.

Trainer Casie Coleman will send out three entries in the Eternal Camnation Stakes and a pair in the Nassagaweya Stakes.

Pretty Katherine has been installed as the 6-5 morning line favorite in her division of the Eternal Camnation Stakes after setting the Georgian Downs track record in her most recent outing in 1:54. The $120,000 yearling purchase has been unbeaten in two lifetime starts for owner John Liviakis.

Coleman’s other entries are Idyllic, who lowered Pretty Katherine’s track record at Georgian Downs in her most recent start to 1:53.2 for driver Robert Shepherd. The daughter of American Ideal also remains unbeaten in her two career starts.

Just a $13,000 yearling purchase, Idyllic’s main competitor in her division is Strike An Attitude who recently won the Whenuwishuponastar Pacing Series in 1:53.3 at Mohawk Racetrack in her most recent start. Idyllic is owned by West Wins Stable, Michael LaCova, Joseph LaCova and John Campagnuolo.

Mater Deo completes the trio of entries of fillies for Coleman. The $37,000 yearling purchase scored a wire-to-wire victory in her latest start, stopping the timer in 1:54.1 from post nine. Steve Calhoun and West Wins Stable own the daughter of Western Ideal.

Coleman was quick to comment that she is still uncertain who her best 2-year-old filly is.

“All three of my fillies won their most recent start and I was very impressed,” Coleman told WEG’s media department. “I’m very happy with all of them, but I still don’t know which one of the three is the best one. I have a pretty powerful 1-2-3 punch, so hopefully we have some luck.”

Ohmygosh Hanover and Rock To Glory headline Coleman’s entries in the Nassagaweya Stakes.

Ohmygosh Hanover has been a pleasant surprise according to Coleman. The son of The Panderosa qualified in 2:00.2 three weeks ago at Mohawk Racetrack and Coleman believed he was just a mediocre horse. The following week the $52,000 yearling purchase posted a 1:56 qualifying effort but Coleman still wasn’t satisfied. Not until his first lifetime start, when Ohmygosh Hanover capitalized on a two hole trip to explode past his rivals, stopping the timer in a whopping 1:51.4.

Coleman told WEG’s media department that Ohmygosh Hanover has been a pleasant surprise.

“I wasn’t expecting the (1):51 mile that’s for sure. He has been an okay colt training down, but not like a good or great colt. He was horrendous in his first qualifier, I don’t know what happened to him for sure but he was no good. I was a little in shock when he qualified in (1):56 and now I’m really in shock after his (1):51 effort. He’s been a pleasant surprise, that’s for sure,” Coleman stated.

Ohmygosh Hanover is owned by Tom Hill.

Coleman’s final entry is Rock To Glory. The son of Rocknroll Hanover was a $37,000 yearling purchase but was recently acquired by owner Mac Nichol. Rock To Glory has two wins in four lifetime attempts with a lifetime best of 1:52.4 and freshman earnings of $23,953.

Mark MacDonald will handle the lines for all five of Coleman’s entries.

Post time for Saturday’s card is 7:30 p.m. with live video streaming available at www.WoodbineEntertainment.com.
