Trainer Casie Coleman is looking for a repeat win in this year’s Pepsi N.A. Cup with Betterthancheddar.

The Cambridge, Ontario conditioner captured the 27th edition last year when Sportswriter wired his rivals in 1:48.3. Now, one year later, Coleman is hoping Betterthancheddar can pen a similar success story.

Most often, horses with limited starts in their 3-year-old campaigns wouldn’t necessarily be a threat for the rich prize, but Coleman is optimistic that her student can steal the spotlight.

“I have some nice colts in the barn, but ‘Chedder’ is just lightning fast and I don’t think I have a colt in my barn that can go with him. I compare him to the best colts I’ve ever had.”

The son of Bettors Delight-Lady Ashlee Ann has one win from two lifetime starts for West Wins Stable and Steve Calhoun.

Betterthancheddar is scheduled to race Monday at Mohawk Racetrack in the sixth race. He will begin from post six for driver Mark MacDonald, who was in the sulky for the 2010 North America Cup winner.

The richest race for pacers in scheduled for June 18 at Mohawk Racetrack.

Coleman also offers her thoughts on Idyllic and Pretty Katherine, who will race in the $150,000 Miss New Jersey this Saturday at Meadowlands.
