Commission approves early opening at Plainridge

Plainville, MA — The Massachusetts Racing Commission has approved a Plainridge Racecourse request to open the 2008 live racing season two weeks earlier than originally planned.

As a result of the commission action, Plainridge Racecourse will now open its season on Monday, March 17. The track will also conduct racing programs on Tuesday, March 18, along with Monday, March 24 and Tuesday, March 25.

On Monday, March 31, which had originally been scheduled as the opening day of the upcoming season, the track will launch a three programs a week schedule, adding Thursday racing cards.

Post time for all cards will be at the traditional 4:00 p.m.

Horsemen should be aware that qualifying races are scheduled for Monday, March 10 and Thursday, March 13, at 1:00 p.m.

The early opening came after negotiations between the management of Plainridge Racecourse and representatives of the Harness Horsemen of New England.

2008 marks the 10th season of racing at Plainridge, and the 36-week meet will continue through November 20. The track is open seven days and nights a week featuring simulcasting from tracks throughout the country.
