Campbellville, ON — Control The Moment capitalized on a pocket trip to win the first leg of the Dream Maker on Monday night (July 20) at Mohawk Racetrack.

A pair of scratches narrowed the field down to just five 2-year-old pacing colts and geldings for the $9,240 first leg of the three-week Dream Maker series.

Control The Moment was a 1:53.4 winner in the Dream Maker.

Control The Moment was sent off as the 4-5 favorite and showed early speed for driver Randy Waples to grab the front and post an opening quarter of :28.3.

Max Is Back and Paul MacDonell quickly circled the favorite in the second quarter to take the lead. After fractions of :57.2 and 1:26.2, Max Is Back was on top turning for home, but Control The Moment had edged to the outside off his back and was less than a length away for the stretch drive.

Control The Moment went into sprint mode in the stretch and easily took the lead and cruised home in :27.2 to win by two lengths in 1:53.4. Mindtrip finished up strong in :27.1 to grab second, while Adrian Hanover and High Times finished third and fourth, respectively. Max Is Back finished fifth.

A son of Well Said-Life’sliltreasure, Control The Moment was a $47,000 yearling purchase at the Lexington Selected Sale last October. Trainer Brad Maxwell co-owns the rookie with Howard Taylor, Edwin Gold and Ben Mudry. Control The Moment captured his career debut a week ago in 1:54.1 and is now two-for-two with $10,080 in earnings.

The second leg of the Dream Maker will take place next Monday (July 27).
