Corey Callahan was injured on Tuesday at Dover Downs.

After the post parade for the first race, Callahan stood up in his racing bike trying to help his horse untangle a leg in her hobble. A horse directly behind bumped into Callahan’s sulky, throwing him to the track.

Callahan was immediately taken by ambulance to nearby Bayhealth Medical Center emergency division in Dover. After spending several hours in the emergency ward, he was finally released when it was determined he had no broken bones. Callahan hopes to return to driving this weekend at Dover Downs.

Ironically, a little more than a week ago, Corey’s father, Nick, was involved in a freak accident at his farm track. While completing training of one of his horses, the horse stumbled, throwing the elder Callahan to the track where he broke his pelvis. He will be sidelined for several months.
