Courageous Lady draw set for Wednesday

by Keith Gisser, publicity director, Northfield Park

Northfield, OH — A total of 64 3-year-old pacing fillies are eligible to Saturday’s $130,000 Courageous Lady Pace at Northfield, and by Wednesday morning we will know how many will actually take a shot at the rich prize. The entry box closes at 9:00 a.m. and there could be supplemental entries as well.

Among the top fillies nominated to the Lady, Tug River Princess won a $122,000 split of the Glen Garnsey at Lexington’s Red Mile Friday, posting an impressive 1:50.4 effort.

Slaley will go for a second straight Ontario Sires Stakes win Tuesday at Kawartha Downs and could race back on short rest Saturday for Ian Fromowitz and Gerrie Tucker. Pavla Hanover got the week off after a good second-place effort at The Meadows on September 26. Kay’s Yankee Lou was fifth in a late closer at The Red Mile Saturday, but she was beaten by only a length in a blanket finish.

Northfield also hosts the Ohio Sires Stakes final for veteran pacers on the Courageous Lady undercard. First post is 7:00 p.m. (EDT).
