Croghan duo win NJSS legs

by Carol Hodes, for the New Jersey Sire Stakes

Freehold, NJ — A pair of 2-year-old trotting fillies trained by Ross Croghan captured both $28,000 opening round divisions of the New Jersey Sire Stakes on Tuesday, August 12, at Freehold Raceway.

I Wanted Wings, who won the $175,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Final at the Meadowlands on July 9, scored a length victory over Rapsong (by Windsong’s Legacy) in the seventh race, the second of the two divisions. It was 1-1/4 lengths back to Allamerican Phoebe (Muscles Yankee) in third.

I Wanted Wings trotted the mile in 2:01.4 with Brian Sears at the lines. It was the filly’s third win with one second in five starts. The daughter of Muscles Yankee-Veronica Lake now has three wins in three New Jersey Sire Stakes appearances. She was also second in her Merrie Annabelle elim but broke stride and finished last in the final.

Let It Ride Stables and Robert Cooper Stables own the filly who has banked more than $120,000.

Gabbys Dream, a daughter of Dream Vacation-Exorcist, scored a neck victory over Tresbien Volo (by Yankee Glide) in 2:02.2 in the first division, the fifth race. RS Giggles (Revenue S) was third by three-quarters of a length.

Jim Pantaleano drove Gabbys Dream, who picked up her first victory with three seconds in six career starts. She is owned by Golden Goose Enterprises and has earnings in excess of $30,000.
