Cujo can’t mask his enthusiasm for Mohawk

Campbellville, ON — Former Toronto Maple Leaf great Curtis Joseph is no stranger to the racetrack. On Saturday night (July 23), the 44-year-old was on-hand signing autographs, before taking in the evening’s racing action which featured the C$730,000 Maple Leaf Trot.

An active participant in Thoroughbred Racing as an owner, it was Joseph’s first time at Mohawk, a memorable night according to the retired goaltender.

“Tonight wasn’t that unfamiliar (to me), but I have never been to Mohawk before or Standardbred racing and it was exciting tonight,” said Joseph. “The hometown favorite won (San Pail took the Maple Leaf Trot) and it’s a great story.”

Joseph, who played 19 years in the National Hockey League, was struck by the atmosphere at the Campbellville oval.

“If you didn’t get the bug tonight, it would be tough,” Joseph said. “I met all the drivers and they’re all good guys. It was a lot of fun out there and it was electric. I had a great time.”

Joseph’s most notable racehorse in recent years is Moment Of Majesty, a filly who finished second, losing by a head, in last year’s C$500,000 Woodbine Oaks.

On Saturday night, Joseph reflected on the evening with WEG’s media department. To watch the video on the Woodbine Entertainment website, please click here.
