Columbus, OH — Trainer-driver Jim Dailey scored stakes wins with a freshman filly pacer and a freshman colt trotter at Scioto Downs on Thursday, keeping their records unblemished. Each one has three stakes wins in three starts.

It was the second night of Ohio State Fair stakes at Scioto Downs. The traditional stakes continue on Friday and Saturday nights.

The Presidential Ball-Ms Mulan filly Best Of Ball remained unbeaten with a 1:56 triumph in her $23,600 split of the Ohio Fair Managers Pace for freshman fillies. Dailey sent his filly to the front from post seven and never relinquished the lead, winning by three-quarters of a length over Forever Ivy and Noble Trixie. The winning filly is owned by the Down The Lane Stable.

Dailey and his freshman trotter Deep Chip made it look easy in winning his $25,100 division of the Ohio State Trot for 2-year-olds. The brown Chip Chip Hooray-Ceremonial colt cruised to victory in 2:01.2, winning by open lengths over Midnight Legacy and Bueno Lavec. He’s owned by his breeders, Kathy Ratcliff and Jerry Zosel.

There were two other divisions of the Ohio State Trot for freshman males. In the first, driver Kyle Ater rated Master’s Cook (Master Lavec-CC Cupcake) perfectly through four quarters in :30 seconds to win in 2:00 over B Contemporary and Rose Run Kordell. The winner is owned by Joseph Muscara and trained by Virgil Morgan, Jr.

Look N Rhap (Ilooklikemymom-Rhapsodic) scored his first lifetime victory in the second division of the Ohio State Trot as trainer-driver Marty Wollam drove him to victory by a head over Rembrandt Spur and KF Power Man. John and Betty Shaw bred and own the gelding. His time was 2:01.2.

Besides Best Of Ball, there were two other divisions of the State Fair Managers Pace, each going for $23,600. The first went to Holdzmfromfloppin (Yankee Cruiser-Goody Two Shoes) as she rallied in the stretch to overtake Outstanding B B to win in 1:58.1. Aaron Merriman drove the filly for his father, trainer Lanny Merriman, and breeders-owners Calvin and Margaret Gandolf. Sam’s Shuffle finished third.

The final division went to Jellyfish Joy in 1:58.1 for trainer Brian Brown and owner Daniel J. Wozniak. Chris Page moved the Cam’s Magic Trick-Enticement filly on the outside with cover and nailed pacesetting Amazing Towner to win by a head. Cruisin For Cash was third.
