Daniel Cappello, 75, dies

Columbus, OH — Daniel (Danny) Cappello, 75, a resident of Swan Lake, N.Y., and a longtime harness horseman, died March 5, 2011, at his home.

Mr. Cappello raced horses at many tracks on the east coast and was a winner of 327 races in a career that spanned five decades. His son, Daniel J. (Dan, Jr.) is a top harness driver with more than 4,600 career victories, and another son, Robert (Bobby), raced horses in the 1990s and in the early 2000s.

Mr. Cappello is survived by his wife, Maggie; children, Dan Jr. (Kelly), Sue, Marie (Ryan) Ahern and Robert; grandchild, Ryan Ahern; brothers, Tony and Arthur; sisters, Mary Perna and Louise Burkett; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 8, from 4-7 p.m. at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home, Burlingham Road, Pine Bush, N.Y. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, March 9, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Kevin Gallagher officiating. Burial will be in the New Prospect Cemetery.
