David Baker, 81, dies

Columbus, OH — David Baker, 81, died April 19, 2015, at home, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Baker was a veteran of the Korean War, where he served as a medic. A long-standing Haverhill, N.H., resident, he was an active member of the community, serving on the Haverhill City Council for many years.

He was a hardworking and dedicated entrepreneur. He started his own construction business building single homes, which he later expanded to nursing homes and apartment complexes. He was also the administrator and owner of nursing homes in Haverhill and Amesbury. In recent years, he was involved in establishing Apple Hill Golf Club in East Kingston, N.H.

Mr. Baker was truly passionate about horses and harness racing. He trained and raced horses, and was an active member of the horse racing community in both New England and Florida.

He showed his love of his faith by acting as president of Temple Emanu-El. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and his family is what brought him his greatest joy.

Mr. Baker is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy; children, Sandi (Stephen) Lundquist, Debbi (Richard) Burston and Robert (Christine); sisters, Rhoda Wolpert and Marsha (Harvey) Katz; brother, Bernard (Monica); five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
