Columbus, OH — David Todd Jones, 68, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, died Feb. 24, 2014, at his home.

He was born Feb. 2, 1946, in Greenport, N.Y., to the late Paul B. Jones and Eloise Mary (nee Ella Louise) Grant Jones. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science from Cornell University, a Master’s Degree in Agriculture from the University of Idaho and nearly completed his PhD in Statistical Genetics from The Ohio State University. He served as a Corporal in the United States Marines, Lima Company during Vietnam.

Mr. Jones loved animals of all kinds, especially his horses and dogs. He enjoyed Standardbred racing, nature, music, museums, studying genealogy, fishing and reading.

He was a fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers and was generous to charities, especially those promoting human rights, adoption of retired racing dogs and horses and protecting nature. He was known as a” fallen graver” since being a contributor to Find A Grave.

While studying statistical genetics, Mr. Jones found a knack for programming and networks. After college, he worked for some very early entries into the custom application development field, some of which also ran the programs for small businesses with no in house hardware. The next phase was adding systems design and sales as computers became more affordable for businesses to own. Eventually, he found a long-time workplace home at Nationwide until illness forced his disability.

He is survived by his wife, Janis Comstock-Jones; son, Todd; sisters, Judy (United States Ambassador, Walter) North, Janet Gross and Claire; and his canine companion Xenia.

A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date for family and friends. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is assisting the family with arrangements.
