Day one at Harrisburg shows 12% increase

The Standardbred Horse Sale at Harrisburg got off to a solid start on Monday. The 344 yearlings passing through the ring sold for an average price of $49,741, an increase of more than 12 percent in comparison to the first session last year. Trotters led the way, as both colts and fillies averaged more than $55,000.

Nevertheless, it was pacing colts who claimed two of the top three prices in this opening session. Caprino Hanover, the Western Hanover colt out of Cathedra, sold for $270,000. Gino Toscani was the winning bidder of this full or three-quarter brother to Western Shooter and Cabrini Hanover. The next highest priced pacer was Modern Desire, a colt from the first crop by Real Desire and out of Wendy M Hanover, going to agent Gregory Peck for $255,000 from the Perretti Farms consignment.

Another first crop sire, Andover Hall, made a substantial impact, accounting for three of the top six highest priced yearlings. The Liquidator, his colt out of Dream Valley Om, was co-leader for the session at $270,000, with Bob McIntosh making the final bid. Peninsula Farm consigned the colt as agent agent for Lee and Linda Devisser. A pair of Andover Hall fillies followed closely behind on the list of elite youngsters. Pampered Princess, a daughter of Bold Dreamer, sold for $240,000 to Anderson Farms, while Jeffrey Snyder snagged And How Hanover, a daughter of Almost An Angel, for $230,000

A total of 46 yearlings sold for $100,000 or more. Jeffrey Snyder, Jules Siegel, Robert McIntosh, and Charles Karp each signed for three of these six-figure youngsters. Hanover Shoe Farms consigned 18 of the $100,000 yearlings, followed by Perretti Farms with 10. Canadians made their presence felt, with Ontario residents buying five of the seven highest-priced yearlings.
