Dayson wins 3-year-old debut at Harrah’s Philadelphia

Chester, PA — The 3-year-old gelding trotter Dayson (Yannick Gingras) was spectacular in his debut for the Ron Burke stable on Thursday (May 12) at Harrah’s Philadelphia.

After winning his first seven starts as a 2-year-old, the altered son of Conway Hall broke in the New York Sire Stakes final as the heavy favorite, thus ending his undefeated streak.

After a pair of qualifiers, he was entered in the featured event on Thursday, a trot for non-winners of $20,000 in their last five starts, or non-winners of nine races.

He was sent immediately to the lead from post eight, brushing past the quarter pole. After rating quarter two, he was challenged by 25-time winner Escuela (George Napolitano Jr.), but was up to the task. The margin of victory (three-quarters of a length) does not reflect the ease with which he won, as he was under wraps in a time of 1:53.

The clocking was only three-fifths of a second off the track record for 3-year-old gelding trotters set by Pinkman last year.

He is owned by Burke Racing Stable, Our Horse Cents Stables, J & T Silva Stables, and Rossie Smith.
