Dayton Derby and Ohio Fair finals draw schedule reminder

from Hollywood Dayton Raceway

Dayton, OH — Trainers planning to enter horses in the $135,000 (est.) Dayton Pacing Derby and/or $135,000 (est.) Dayton Trotting Derby on Friday (Oct. 2) are reminded that the entry box closes in accordance with the regular Hollywood Dayton Raceway draw schedule on Monday (Sept. 28) at 2 p.m.

Entries may be made using the USTA online entry option or by calling the race office at 937.235.7859 from 12 noon to 2 p.m.

The conditions state that the top nine 2015 money winners that enter each race will comprise the fields, with no more than two entries from the same owner or trainer. If a horse enters and does not get in due to lesser earnings, the trainer may request a full refund of all nominating and sustaining payments, or may transfer to an open event on the same program with all fees added to that purse.

A night earlier on Thursday (Oct. 1), Hollywood Dayton will host the Ohio Fairs finals with each of the eight divisions for 2- and 3-year-old pacers and trotters going for a $15,000 (est.) purse. The entry box closes on Saturday (Sept. 26) at 2 p.m. in accordance with the track’s regular draw schedule.

The top nine nominated point earners, with no more than two in any race from the same connections, will comprise the fields. A total of 545 horses were nominated with points being compiled by the OHHA staff. With the final qualifying races being held at Delaware, Ohio, a completed point standings list should be available by 12 noon on Friday (Sept. 25). Trainers may contact either the OHHA office or the Hollywood Dayton race office at that time to determine their horse’s final standing.

“If you want to race in the final, you should enter your nominated horse regardless of where you fall on the points list,” said Hollywood Dayton Race Secretary Gregg Keidel. “When the ‘Night Of Champions’ was administered and contested at Northfield Park years ago, it wasn’t all that unusual for a horse well down the standings list to get in to race.”
