Deadline approaching to register for Red Mile backstretch tours on Kentucky Futurity Day

from the Harness Horse Youth Foundation

Westfield, IN — Time is running out to register your family or youth group for a free backstretch tour of The Red Mile.

The Harness Horse Youth Foundation, in conjunction with the Kentucky Horse Council, is offering a backstretch tour for youth groups or families wishing to get a behind the scenes look at harness racing on Sunday (Oct. 6), the day of the prestigious Kentucky Futurity for 3-year-old trotters at Lexington’s Red Mile race track.

The tour starts at 11:30 a.m., with the grandstand entrance as the meeting place. Participants will visit the Stable of Memories barn and museum, visit the front paddock area, get a close-up explanation of harness racing equipment and experience the trotters and pacers, along with their trainers, drivers and caretakers, prepare for the biggest day in Kentucky harness racing.

They will also get a chance to meet with HHYF alumni and staff and learn about the many equine programs the Foundation presents.

The tour is free, but space is limited and advance reservations are required. To reserve a spot for your family or group, call HHYF Executive Director Ellen Taylor at 317.867.5877 or e-mail her at ellen@hhyf.org not later than Wednesday (Oct. 2).

Backstretch tour participants are invited to stick around for the race card, which begins at 1 p.m.
