Dean Miller, 72, dies

Columbus, OH — Dean E. Miller, 72, of Archbold, Ohio, died after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Jan. 27, 2017, at Hospice in Defiance, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Feb. 14, 1944, near Archbold, the son of Dale and Laura (Nagel) Miller. He was blessed with 51 years of marriage to Diane Rupp, beginning on Dec. 18, 1965. He was a graduate of Archbold High School and Adrian College.

He retired as president of MBC Holdings (Miller Bros. Const.) in 2012 after 45 years of service and dedication. He was a former member of the board of directors of F&M State Bank, chairman of the building committee at St. John Lutheran Church of Stryker and a lifelong member of the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association. He was the recipient of the 2012 Dr. John P. Stevens Humanitarian Award from the OHHA.

Mr. Miller was a strong supporter of Archbold Area Foundation, Archbold Sports Complex, and Archbold Area Schools extra-curricular activities.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, harness racing, golfing, watching sports, summers at the lake and winters in Florida.

He is survived by his wife; son, Brad (Marcia); daughter, Michelle (Wes) Kinsey; grandsons, Colton Kinsey, Kyle Kinsey, and Cade; granddaughters, Lauren and Taylor; sister, Donna (Harley) Burkholder; brothers, Vic (Jeanette), Denny (Billye) and Carl (Judi); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be held on Wednesday (Feb. 1) at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, rural Stryker, with Pastor Jeffrey Corder officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday (Jan. 31). Short Funeral Home in Archbold has been entrusted with the arrangements.
