Columbus, OH — Two states have banned horses coming from the Dovington Training Center in Felton, Del., after a Standardbred based there tested positive for equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1), a highly infectious viral disease of horses.
The Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission has issued a release stating, “Per the order of Director of Harness Racing Anton J. Leppler: no horse coming from the Dovington Training Center on Black Swamp Road in Felton, Del., shall be allowed inside a harness racetrack enclosure within the state of Pennsylvania until further notice.”
In New Jersey, The Meadowlands and Freehold have reportedly decided not to take entries from the area affected for the next 21 days. Those with questions should contact those race offices.
