Dennis Cummings, 68, dies

Columbus, OH — Dennis A. Cummings, 68, died May 14, 2012.

Mr. Cummings was born May 9, 1944, a son of the late Arnold and Evelyn (Schmidt) Cummings. He attended Akron High School and was the proprietor of Cummings Stables in Pembroke, N.Y., which he established 35 years ago.

He raised Standardbreds and was a member of the USTA and the Western New York Harness Horsemen’s Association. He was a truly dedicated farmer, working from sun up to sun down while caring for the horses and maintaining his crops.

His best horse was Paradise Indian, who was driven by the late Dave Vance and won many New York Sire Stakes races in 1995, including the $150,000 final at Yonkers.

Mr. Cummings is survived by his wife, Paula (Hibbard); children, Dennis (Lori), Kenneth (Nadine) Snyder, Wendy (Daryl) Bruyere and Heidi (Keith) Ball; eight grandchildren; and sister, Dianne (David) Burns.

The family will receive friends on Friday (May 18) from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in the Childs Funeral Home LLC, 10 Eckerson Ave., Akron, NY, where funeral services will take place on Saturday (May 19) at 11 a.m. Rev. David Weidman will officiate. Burial will be in Pioneer Cemetery, Akron.
