Despite no signed deal, Meadowlands still expected to open in January

Columbus, OH — A story on northjersey.com reports that live racing will return to Meadowlands Racetrack in January even if the transfer of operations to Jeff Gural has not been completed.

In the story, Dennis Robinson, president of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, said he hoped that the deal with Gural will be completed by Dec. 5.

“No one has to worry about harness racing coming back,” Gural was quoted in the story. “It’s going to take a lot of work to get this done by Dec. 5, but I think we can do it.”

Robinson said that the complexity of various agreements, including simulcasting deals with other racetracks, has delayed the negotiations, which, at mid-year, were supposed to end by September.

Gural said he has not yet completed deals with all of the unions whose workers are employed at the track.
