Dinger Four upsets at 184-1 in Meadows finale

by Evan Pattak, for The Meadows

Washington, PA — Bettors pegged Wednesday’s 13th and final race Wednesday (Jan. 25) at The Meadows as a predictable affair, hammering down Town Speaker to 3-5. But James “Calvin” Dodson and Dinger Four had other ideas, as they rushed by the favorite in the shadow of the wire to score in 1:56.4 at an astronomical 184-1. Dinger Four returned $370.20 to win and $464.80 across the board for a $2 wager.

Trained by Ron Lineweaver for Alvin Lineweaver, Dinger Four was a ground-saving third for most of the mile before launching his winning move. It was the third victory in 64 career starts for the 5-year-old Art’s Card Trick-Miller Creek Heart gelding.

The shocker set up a pair of carryovers for Saturday’s program — a $5,680.10 carryover in the card’s first superfecta and a $1,769.31 carryover in the Pick-5, races 8-12. First post Saturday is 1 p.m.
