Don Swick scores 1,000th career win

Pompano Beach, FL — Harness horse owner, trainer, and driver Don Swick scored his 1,000th career driving victory on Thursday at Pompano Park when he won the second race, $2,300 trot with Don Pellegrino.

Following this win, Don Swick had his picture taken in the winner’s circle for the 1,00th time as a driver

Swick, 54, of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., trains and co-owns San Pellegrino with Royal Wire Products of Ohio. San Pellegrino won by one and one-quarter lengths in 2:003. It was the first victory for the 3-year-old colt by San Pellegrino.

The second round of the Valley Victory Trotting Series will be raced on Friday in two $6,500 divisions. Featured in the seventh race, second division will be the unbeaten Regal Visitor, who will start from the rail for driver Wally Hennessey. The 4-year-old stallion by Malabar man is five-for-five in 2004, and last week he won his opening round division for trainer Charles Beaver and owners Jayne Cummins and Johanna Beaver of Kentucky and Ohio in 1:573.

The fifth race, first division will be headed by Trotting Intruder, who will start from the rail for driver Donald Dupont and who last week was second to Regal Visitor. Also in the race will be Leave No Message (post six), who won an opening round division of the series in 1:581.

Special events for the fans on Friday night will include “the Money Machine,” which will contain more than $1,000 in cash and betting vouchers, a live radio broadcast from Majic 102.7 FM, the South Florida Swing Dance Society will be giving lessons and a demonstration during the night, and there will be a drawing for a raffle ticket, for which a 2004 Porsche Boxster S will be the prize, which is part of a fundraiser for the Danielle DeMarzo Foundation children’s charity.
