Donald Hay Sr., 91, dies

Columbus, OH — Donald E. Hay Sr., 91, of Coldwater, Ohio, died April 2, 2016, at Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne.

He was born July 21, 1924, in Coldwater, to the late Earl and Ocie (Yaney) Hay. On Nov. 25, 1950, he married Pat (Rolfes), who survives in Coldwater. He is also survived by his children, Kathy (Greg Gargis), Donald E. Jr. (Renee) and Mindy (Paul) Dingledine; grandchildren, Paul Sunderhaus, Tina Hilleary, Jason, Kyle Dingledine and Amber Hawk; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Herbert ‘Nub’. He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Harold ‘Sunny’, Dororthy Andrew, Cliford, Betty Flesch and Lou Leen.

He was a member of the Holy Trinity Church, Coldwater, Coldwater V.F.W., Coldwater American Legion and the United States Trotting Association.

He worked for the former New Idea Coldwater and retired from the Mercer County Highway Department. He was a veteran of the World War II U.S. Army.

He loved the horses he owned and trained them for many years.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday (April 6) at Holy Trinity Church, Coldwater. Burial will Follow in Swamp College Cemetery, Celina. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday (April 5) and 9-10 a.m. on Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
