Doris Niccum, 86, dies

Columbus, OH — Don Niccum’s mother, Doris Niccum of Fowlerville, Michigan, died Wednesday afternoon after a brief illness following hip surgery. She was 86-years-old.


She is survived by three sons: Richard (longtime USTA tattoo technician), Stan – trainer in Michigan and Don – trainer in New Jersey.


She is preceded in death by husband Don R. Niccum who was a professional trainer/driver.


She was born and raised in Illinois, always proud of her mid-west roots. She worked as a secretary at the University of Illinois and also in the South Lyon, MI Public Schools, and always helped with the family racing stable.

She was a huge fan who loved to watch harness racing on RTN on a daily basis.
