Laval, PQ — Dr. Lucien Paiement, 80, president of Semalu Farm, in Laval, Quebec, and a breeder and owner for more than 30 years, died Jan. 23, 2013.

Over the years he owned or bred several champions in Canada and the United States, including Semalu Damour, who won the Lady Maud and Mistletoe Shalee; Esmeralda Semalu, a homebred mare that became a world champion over a five-eighths-mile track; and many others.
