DW’s NY Yank wins Philadelphia feature

by Mike Bozich, for Harrah’s Philadelphia

Chester, PA — A field of six Winner’s Over $25,000 lifetime trotters lined up for the featured event at Harrah’s Philadelphia on Thursday afternoon (April 7), going for a purse of $25,000.

The favorite going in was Ron Burke trainee DW’s NY Yank. The 7-year-old gelded son of Dilbert Hanover was coming off a tough trip from post seven at Yonkers.

As the gate closed, the favorite quickly settled into the pocket behind Opulent Yankee (Andy Miller) by a quarter in :28 over a track labeled sloppy. They remained one-two past the three-quarter pole, when DW’s NY Yank (Yannick Gingras) vacated the pocket to challenge for the lead.

They battled down the stretch, with the favorite edging clear to win by a length, stopping the clock in 1:54.4 for his first win of the season. War Cry Hall (Tim Tetrick) finished third.

Owned by Burke Racing, Weaver Bruscemi, and Howard Taylor, DW’s NY Yank is now just $15,000 shy of $1 million in career earnings. He paid $5.20.

Drivers Brett Miller and Tim Tetrick each had three wins on the program.
