Early Closers dominate card at Tioga Downs

Tioga Downs kicked off another weekend of live harness racing action around the 5/8th’s mile oval in Nichols, New York. Three events of the early closing series were contended which included the Southern Fear Claiming Series, The Susquehanna River Trotting Series, and the Tioga Throwdown Trotting Series.

Sean Bier and Meteor Man crossed the wire 4 ¼ lengths ahead of the field in the first division of the Southern Fear Claiming Series. The 5-year old gelding by Life Sign recorded his 5th win in 13 starts this year in a time of 1:53.4. This mile tied the all aged track record for pacers and set a new track record for aged gelding pacers.

The second division of the Susquehanna Trotting Series was taken by Kid Conway and driver Chuck Connor Jr. in a new lifetime mark and new track record for 3-year old colt trotters in 1:58.1. The fourth division was won by driver Jim Meittinis and 3-year old colt Saver in a new lifetime mark of 1:59.4.

The first division of the Tioga Throwdown Trot was won by Infamy with Stephane Bouchard in the bike. The-5 year old gelding by Conway Hall crossed the wire in 1:58.1. The second division was won by Mr. Troy in a lifetime best of 1:57. This was the 4-year old trotter’s fourth win in sixteen starts for trainer-driver Alex Spano.

Tioga Downs welcomed its first dead heat photo for win. Yankee Arnie driven by Christopher Lems and Fade N Away with Larry Stalbaum in the bike crossed the wire together stopping the timer in 1:55.

Tioga Downs will hold qualifiers Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. (EDT) followed by live racing action Saturday night at 6:50 p.m., and rounding out the weekend with a Sunday afternoon card at 12:45 p.m. (EDT).
