Eddie Davis Jr. is patriotic at Plainridge

from Plainridge Park Casino

Plainville, MA — Eddie Davis Jr.’s colors are red and white, but perhaps they should have been red, white and blue on Monday (April 18). The veteran driver tallied victories in the $10,000 Lady Patriot and $10,000 Patriot events at Plainridge Park.

Davis put favored Always Flash-n on the lead early in the Lady Patriot event and then held off a furious rally from You’re News and driver Tim Hudson in 1:54.4. Always Flash-n is owned by Irwin Kaplan and is trained by Bo Sowers.

In the Patriot final for horses and geldings, Davis grabbed a pocket trip with Cool Runnings and wore down favored Keemosabe in the stretch for a 1:54.2 triumph. Davis also trains Cool Runnings, who he owns in partnership with Dustin White.

The $10,000 final of the Bunker Hill trotting event was a monument to the patience of driver Shawn Gray. On a day when two-thirds of the races were won by horses starting on the outer half of the gate, Gray patiently bided his time at the back of the pack with Keystone Wallace before rallying to a 1:56.4 victory over co-favorites Money Mayweather and Muscana in the stretch. Keystone Wallace is owned and trained by James Dunn.

For the month of April live racing action takes place at Plainridge every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Post time is at 4 p.m.
