Eleanor Gillock, 87, dies

Washington, PA — Eleanor Gillock, 87, matriarch of a longtime Meadows racing family, died Feb. 12, 2017.

A resident of Belle Vernon, Pa., she was often in attendance at The Meadows watching her sons’ horses race.

She is survived by three daughters, Brenda (Bill) Sutton, Barbara (George) Popelas and Debra Hawker; two sons, Michael and Richard (Linda); and 11 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Both Michael and Richard are longtime Meadows-based trainers, and Richard currently serves as the president of the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Michael J.; along with 10 brothers and sisters.

Friends will be received from 3-9 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 14) in the James C. Stump Funeral Home, 580 Circle Drive, Belle Vernon. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 15) with Pastor Joe DiDonato officiating.
