Elian Web wins Finnish stake race Suur-Hollola over two days

It takes a tough trotter to win the Finnish stake race Suur-Hollola, raced at the track in Lahti over two days.

Eliminations were raced Saturday (July 4) and the final on Sunday (July 5). The distance in all races was 1-5/16th miles.

Elian Web, who recently raced in the Elitlopp in Stockholm, is a tough trotter and he won an elimination for driver Janne Soronen and the final for driver Jorma Kontio.

In the elimination, Elian Web won in 1:55.4f (mile rate) and the final in 1:57.1f (mile rate). The purse to the winner was $135,000 plus $11,500 from the elimination.

In Norway, top French trotter Ble du Gers, who recently won the Oslo Grand Prix, won another big prize in the Ulf Thoresen Grand International at Jarlsberg.

Ble du Gers, who has joined the stable of Frode Hamre, had Vidar Hop in the bike and won easily in 1:55.3f (mile rate) over the 1-5/16th mile distance.

Plans for legendary French trotter Bold Eagle have changed again, and Sunday he raced for probably the last time in France. But one never knows. At the mile track at La Capelle in Normandy, Bold Eagle with Tony le Beller finished third.
The race was won by Drole de Jet with Pierre Vercruysse in a new track record of 1:52.
