Dover, DE — For the second straight week, Elvis Cole had no trouble earning a 1:55.3 victory in the $27,500 Open Trot at Dover Downs on Wednesday, March 21. Tony Morgan drove four winners including two from post eight, both owned and trained by Art Brewer.

Elvis Cole was a repeat winner in the week’s top trot at Dover.

Purchased late in 2006 by Parker Callahan and Nick Callahan, Elvis Cole has turned into a winning machine, losing only once in his last six races, to $1.2 million winner JM Vangogh three starts back. Corey Callahan was at the controls as the 5-year-old Lindy Lane gelding posted a 1:55.3 victory in the week’s top trot. Saint Johns Boy, driven by Ross Wolfenden, came on fast in the lane to edge Go Sassy Go and George Dennis in the final stride to finish second.

Elvis Cole now has five wins and two seconds in nine ’07 starts. He has earned $73,875 this year, $13,000 more than he banked last season in 31 starts.

Celtic Hall, owned by Neal Oksenberg and Ginger Tree Stable, won a gritty 1:57.3 mile in a $17,000 Winners Over Trot. Four horses left the gate with Celtic Hall left outside. Tim Curtin kept the Garland Lobell gelding going to take the lead just before the clubhouse turn. Under duress from Put Them On Hold, with Roger Plante driving, on the backstretch, Celtic Hall shifted gears and opened up in the stretch, holding off Nathan My Boy and Brad Hanners, with Put Them On Hold coming on again for third.

In the other $17,000 Trot, Carlo Poliseno pulled Tony Poliseno’s 16-1 Johnny Peanuts four wide turning for home and then overtook those in front for a 1:58 triumph. Mr Performer (Art Stafford, Jr.) was second. Coerfurst (Brad Hanners) took show honors.

The $13,000 conditioned trot went to Arty Foster’s Sears Tower and driver Tim Tetrick in 1:57.3. Admiral’s Quest (Jim Morand) was the second finisher. Go Nano Go (Eddie Davis, Jr.) was third.
