Eugene Denney, 83, dies

Columbus, OH —– Eugene “Gene” L. Denney, 83, of Rome, N.Y., where he was a resident of the Terrace at Woodland, died Jan. 5, 2021, after complications from COVID-19.

Mr. Denney was born in Piercefield, N.Y., on Oct. 29, 1937, to the late Lloyd Denney and Frances Colton. He graduated from Edwards High School. On July 19, 1957, he was united in marriage to the former Lynne Kerr, a blessed union of 56 years until her passing on April 24, 2014.

Mr. Denney retired as a lineman from IBEW #1249 and as a civilian worker from the United States Government. He was a member of the USTA, being a horseman at Vernon Downs, and a lifetime member of the Freemasons.

He is survived by his daughters, Kelli (Daniel) Ramer, Leslie (Brian) Hansson, Genea (Ed) Meehan, and Heidi (Tina Reynolds-Gordon); sons, Timothy (Anne) and Joel (Valerie); 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters; and two brothers.

A graveside memorial will be in the spring at Fairview Cemetery in Edwards, N.Y.

Mr. Denney had a strong work ethic, devotion to his family and love for his horses.
