Europan Union nips Nova Artist to win Dover feature

Dover, DE — Jim Morand took Europan Union right to the front and held off all challengers to score a 1:50.1 victory in the $30,000 Delaware Special on Thursday, March 21 at Dover Downs. North America’s leading driver Corey Callahan added four victories to his 2013 totals.

After finishing second by a nose the previous week, Europan Union reversed the finish this week edging Nova Artist and Allan Davis by a nose. A 6-year-old No Pan Intended-Pansatlantic gelding owned by trainer Ed Gannon, Europan Union won for the third time this year earning $52,150 of his career bankroll of $514,865. Nova Artist, in his first start in a month was a game second. Eagle All with Ron Pierce finished third.

Ron Pierce guided Adventure Bound to a 1:51 victory in the $24,000 Open/Handicap pace for his third win of 2013. Eric Ell conditions the Camluck-Unchained Speed gelding for Ken Wood, Bill Dittmar and Steve Iaquinta. Adventure Bound has now won $57,540 this year and $230,062 lifetime. The same connections, owners, trainer and driver, made the winner’s circle later when Ise The By Boy notched a 1:53 victory in an $11,500 Male pace.
