Monday’s (Sept. 14) edition of Fair Roundup features a results story from the York (PA) Fair.

Freshmen in action at York

York, PA — Harness racing returned to the York Fair for an evening card featuring 2-year-olds on Monday in south central Pennsylvania.

In the 2-year-old Quaker Trot, Syl King guided Redoakswillynilly to a 2:08.2 victory. King also owns and trains the Go Get Lost colt, who has now won three of 10 starts.

In the first PA Sire Stake event of the night, Kyle Bolon’s North Broadway took a new lifetime mark in a 2-year-old colt trot, scoring in 2:04.3. Rod Bolon trains the winner, while Roger Hammer picked up the winning catch-drive.

In the second division, Fortissimo was a 2:06.1 winner for trainer Joyce Lineweaver and driver Wayne Long. The mile took more than three seconds off the Wonder Dancer gelding’s previous record. Eileen Lineweaver owns the four-time winner.

Leola set a new track record for a 2-year-old trotting filly with a 2:03.4 score.

The first 2-year-old filly trotting split, which carried a purse of $6,386, brought the Lineweaver/Long combination their second straight win, as Leola was an impressive winner for owner Ellen Warren. Leola, a daughter of Wonder Dancer, trotted the mile in 2:03.4, taking nearly a full second off the track record for 2-year-old trotting fillies. The previous mark of 2:04.3 had been established in 2002 by KT Dee Dee.

Caviar’s Dancer continued to ride a hot streak, picking up her fourth straight win in the second filly trotting split. Owned by Dr. William Solomon, Caviar’s Dancer won for trainer/driver Jamie Coffy in 2:05, the third time in the last four starts that the filly trotted in the exact same time. Overall, it was win number six in 13 starts on the season for the daughter of SJ’s Caviar.

Freshman colt pacers were up next in three groups. Luscious Al won the first PASS division, pacing in 2:00.3 for owner/trainer/driver Roger Hammer. The Arturo gelding paced the last half in :58 seconds to earn his 11th win of the season.

In the second division, DVC Givemeattitude reached double-digits in the win column, earning his 10th win in his 17th start for owner/trainer/driver Dave Brickell. The time of the mile was 2:00.3. The Arturo gelding paced his last half in :57 seconds, with a last quarter in :28.2.

The final colt pacing split brought a new track record on the York oval, as Half Moon Bay powered to the front past the opening half (:59.1) and drew clear to a 1:58.3 win, becoming the first freshman to break the 2:00 barrier. The previous mark of 2:00.1 had stood for 12 years. Roger Hammer and Todd Schadel own Half Moon Bay, a Western Hanover colt. Hammer trains and was in the bike for the track record performance.

Hammer picked up his third win of the night in the first filly pacing division, as My Gal Mykenna paced to a 2:00.4 win. Hammer co-owns the Real Artist filly with Nevin Gilbert.

In the second divison, it was more of the same, as Hammer guided his own Bliss Falcon to a 2:02.2 score. The Blissfull Hall filly earned her sixth win of the season from 15 starts, pacing the last half in :59.1.

Hammer’s streak came to an end — in a way — in the final filly pacing division. Anxiety Hanover picked up the win in 2:02.1. A filly by The Panderosa, Anxiety Hanover is owned and trained by Hammer, but was driven by Chris Shaw, as Hammer elected to drive stablemate Wicked Native. That filly finished second.

The night ended with a single division of the 2-year-old Quaker Pace, and Bodine Hanover broke his maiden by pacing to a 2:01.4 win. Chris Offutt drove the winner for his father, trainer and co-owner Joe Offutt. Maria Lewis also owns the No Pan Intended colt, who won in his 14th career start.

Action continues at York on Tuesday morning, with 3-year-olds in action beginning at 10:30 a.m.
