R E Shawn wins fourth straight at Van Wert Fair

Van Wert, OH — The second session of racing at the Van Wert County Fair in Van Wert, Ohio, featured 14 races on Friday night.

Paul Russell’s R E Shawn (Jailhouse Jesse-Dick’s Lil Sister) won his fourth consecutive race by capturing the first division of the 2-year-old colt trot in 2:06.4. Ann Russell trains the gelding with Greg Bateson picking up the winning catch-drive. Bateson also found the winner’s circle in the second split with Jailhouse Andy (Jailhouse Jesse-Angela Lobell) after a mile in 2:08.2. John Schuberg trains Jailhouse Andy for 15K Stable, Inc.

Cindora (Emile Angus-Cinder Madalyn) took the first division of the 3-year-old filly trot in 2:05.1. Mark Headworth drove the filly for owner-trainer Jim Mulinix. Kevin and Renee West’s I’m Loaded (Emile Angus-Carry A Load) was victorious in the second division in 2:06.1. Chad Peter is the trainer-driver of I’m Loaded.

Cherish Melody (Precious Bunny-Romantic Melody) was the winner of the lone division of the 3-year-old filly pace. Floral City Stable pays the bills on the filly with John Schuberg doing the training and Greg Bateson performing the driving chores. Cherish Melody toured the Van Wert oval in 2:03.

Forever Friendly won the Signature Series Pace for owner-trainer Kathy Hawk in 1:58.1. Mark Headworth had the winning catch-drive on the gelding on Friday night.

George’s Vacation took the fair’s Signature Series Trot for the second consecutive year with a mile in 2:02.1. Phil Peden piloted the stallion for owner-trainer Mike McCarty. The 2:02.1 mile was a new track record for older horse trotters. George’s Vacation had established the old mark of 2:03.4 last year.
